Our story

I’m Emma, the heart and hands behind Wild & Unruly.

I currently work from my home-based flower studio in Walton, Felixstowe, where every bouquet begins its life just a few steps from my back door.

My love of growing began early. I was raised by green‑fingered parents — Mum with her Alpine plants, Dad with his roses and runner beans — and many of my happiest childhood memories involve slow Sunday afternoons spent wandering around garden centres. Some things never change.

I originally wanted to study floristry straight out of school, but the nearest college was over an hour away, and the dream felt out of reach. Years later, with my children grown, I finally returned to the path I’d always hoped to follow. I’ve spent time honing my horticultural skills, learning to grow specifically for cutting, and investing in floristry training and hands‑on experience.

Where Seasonal Beauty Meets Sustainable Design

In 2023, Wild & Unruly was born — a studio dedicated to seasonal, eco‑friendly floral design using British-grown flowers wherever possible, and a commitment to helping build a more sustainable floral industry.

It’s astonishing to think that just 50 years ago, nearly 80% of the flowers sold in the UK were grown here. Today, it’s closer to 10%. Thankfully, the tide is turning. In 2011, Yorkshire farmer Gill Hodgson MBE founded Flowers from the Farm, a not‑for‑profit network championing local flower growers and encouraging more British blooms back into our homes. With over 350 members, it’s now the UK’s largest community of cut‑flower growers — and I’m proud to be one of them.

I currently grow a small but abundant cutting garden filled with flowers, herbs, and foliage. This allows me to offer freshly cut, beautifully scented stems that I’ve nurtured from seed to bloom. I also work closely with a wonderful network of growers across Suffolk, Essex, and the wider UK to bring you the very best of what each season has to offer.

Being eco‑friendly is at the heart of everything I do. It’s not just about using British flowers — it’s about thoughtful choices across my whole business. I never use traditional floral foam, as it breaks down into harmful microplastics. Instead, I rely on creativity, research, and natural mechanics such as moss, twigs, chicken wire, water, and reusable or compostable materials. My packaging is always recyclable, reusable, or compostable.

It’s all about you
